SIH Herrin Hospital is thrilled to announce a new era in surgical innovation with the introduction of the da Vinci Xi® robotic-assisted surgical system. This state-of-the-art technology marks a significant milestone in expanding the hospital’s ability to offer minimally invasive surgeries, giving patients in Southern Illinois access to advanced medical care closer to home.

On September 10, we observe Suicide Awareness Day, a time dedicated to acknowledging the profound impact suicide has on individuals, families and communities. Suicide is a devastating reality that touches many lives, and recognizing the importance of this day is a vital part of SIH's mission to care for others with compassion, respect and dedication.

SIH is committed to providing an equitable work environment to all employees, no matter their gender identity. Women’s Equality Day, celebrated on August 26th, commemorates the ratification of the 19th Amendment and federal protections for women’s right to vote. Advancing gender equality allows diverse perspectives and inclusive practices to create an equitable work environment while improving patient care.

“Pride Month has come to mean more to the LGBTQ+ community: feeling pride instead of shame for who you are,” says SIH Chief Health Information Officer Dr. Todd Guenzburger.

Food insecurity - the lack of affordable, healthy food - traditionally peaks in the summer. Regional food pantries affiliated with the Southern Illinois Food Pantry Network shared they were struggling to keep their shelves stocked.

 The first Friday of March is set aside as Employee Appreciation Day to recognize and thank employees for their contributions. Here at SIH, over 4,000 staff members go above and beyond to create a quality experience for patients and each other.

"I could name so many more who are often overlooked, not only during February but also throughout history. I encourage us all to continue to gain knowledge about Black culture and the diverse cultures and histories of other humans. "
