Up to 85 percent of Americans will experience some type of back or neck pain during their lives, although most people will improve with little or no treatment. However, you should make an appointment at SIH, if your pain is so intense, you can’t move around easily; your pain hasn’t decreased within two to three weeks; or if you also experiencing symptoms such as loss of bladder or bowel control, or numbness in your leg, foot or groin.
Interventional pain management involves special procedures to treat and manage pain. These types of techniques might help reduce the amount of time you experience pain, allow you to do more activities around the home and outside of it and could help you sleep better.
These procedures might include:
- An injection of an painkilling medicine or steroid around nerves, tendons, joints or muscles (this could reduce inflammation)
- Spinal cord stimulation (this can mask pain signals before they reach the brain)
- A possible medicinal delivery system
- A procedure with radio-frequency ablation or cryoablation (this either heats up or cools down a tiny area of nerve tissue to decrease pain signals)
You shouldn’t have to live in pain. Here are the conditions we can help you manage:
- Back and neck pain
- Spinal stenosis
- Degenerative disc/disc herniation
- Arm and leg pain due to radiculopathy or sciatica
- Facet joint pain
- Sacroiliac joint pain
- Complex regional pain syndromes
- Cancer pain
- Bursitis/tendinitis and other soft tissue pain syndrome
- Headache/migraine
- Pain related to spasticity, stroke or MS
