- Q: Can staff cross train to higher competency departments?
A: Yes! Staff will have to complete orientation and competency checklists.
- Q: Can Float B work more than 3 shifts every 6-weeks?
A: Yes, Float B staff can pick up according to our needs.
- Q: Do you have to take an internal contract in float B?
A: No, you can work per diem for the float pool and pick up shifts as needed.
- Q: Are staff hours guaranteed while in contract?
A:No, even while in a contract it is possible to receive low census or standby.
- Q: Do I have to float to all 4 hospitals?
A: Yes, we currently float to Carbondale, Murphysboro, and Herrin Hospitals. Harrisburg Hospital will join the rotation within the next couple of years.
- Q: Can I tell my nursing friends?
A:Yes! Please share the news! We are really excited for this new opportunity and don’t forget you can receive a $2500 referral bonus for referring an external applicant.
- Q: How do I apply?
A: You can apply at sih.net/careers. Search for requisition # 2022-11198 for Float A and 2022-11199 for Float B.
- Q: Is there weekend option in the float pool?
A: No, currently the float pool does not have a weekend option program.
- Q: Is there a unit specific float pool option? For example, could I float to all 4 hospitals but only work in the ED?
A: No, everyone will float to med/surg plus any other units they are competent in. For example, if you are an ICU competent nurse you can expect to float to Med/Surg, PCU, Stepdown-ICU, and ICU.
- Q: Are there day and night shift positions available?
A: At this time our priority is night shift, but we will have a limited number of day shift positions available. This may change as internal contract needs arise.
- Q: Does float pool B replace the regular hospital PRN positions?
A:No, there will still be PRN unit specific positions.
- Q: How does scheduling work?
A:Float Pool A & B will use preferred scheduling in API. We strive to balance our schedule to meet unit needs while still providing schedule flexibility. Internal contract scheduling will be done by unit mangers per unit need.
- Q: How does the mileage stipend work?
A:For internal contracts only, if you live 75+ miles away from your contracted hospital you will receive an additional $1800 for a 6-week contract and up to $3600 for a 12-week contract. The amount will be split up and added to your paycheck every 2 weeks.
- Q: How will I know what hospital/unit I will be working at each shift.
A:The system staffing office will contact you 2 hours before shift start and let you know your assignment.
- Q: Will I ever have to change assignments mid shift?
A: Yes, occasionally you may have to float to another hospital mid shift. You are paid travel time and mileage.
- Q: Does the float pool receive the retention bonus?
A:The float pool is approved for the April-June retention bonus just as all RN positions are at this time.
- Q: Can we be placed on standby or low census?
A:Yes, we follow the low census/standby guidelines in the centralized staffing policy #SY-NG-072
- Q: I just left SIH for a travel position 2 months ago. Able I am to apply and return to SIH?
A: Yes! As long as you are eligible for rehire per HR you can apply.
- Q: Who do I report to?
A:Mindy Piercy is the manger of the float pool.
- Q: If I am a day shift PRN RN in Float B, can I take a night shift internal contract. Will I receive temporary bonus?
A: Yes, you can apply for internal contracts outside of your designated shift. You will not receive temporary bonus.
