SIH STAT Heart Program
When a heart attack strikes, it’s a race against time. Experts agree: Treatment within the first 90 minutes of a heart event is essential. In a region as vast and rural as Southern Illinois, we want to make sure you’re getting treatment as fast as possible, just like you would if you lived in a big city. To close the gap between diagnosis and treatment, the SIH STAT Heart Program was created.
In collaboration with the Prairie Cardiovascular, we’ve built the largest network of heart and vascular care in southern Illinois. By working closely with ten of our region’s hospitals and local EMS agencies, we’re conquering the nation’s number one killer – cardiovascular disease.
Warning signs of a heart attack can be varied and may not always be sudden or severe. If you're experiencing one or a combination of any of these symptoms
Don't wait - Call 911!
- Chest pain, heaviness, tightness or pressure
- Feels like an “elephant sitting on my chest”
- Pain radiating to the neck, shoulder, arm or back
- Shortness of breath
- Feels like “bad indigestion”
- Nausea
- Cold sweats
- Dizziness, light-headedness
- “Just don’t feel well” or “not quite right”
Your regional EMS crews can quickly diagnose a Heart Attack and get you to the most appropriate facility for care.
The goal of the SIH STAT Heart Program is to connect area hospitals and local EMS agencies to develop a well-orchestrated series of protocols for swift diagnosis and treatment of chest pain patients. This collaboration has had great success in reducing the time to treatment in the event of an acute myocardial infarction.
Emergency Department teams in ten community hospitals and their local emergency management personnel make it their mission to meet or exceed the targeted 90 minute window to treatment.
