Joint Camp Includes:
- Dedicated Orthopedic Unit inside SIH Herrin Hospital designed through collaboration with Orthopedic surgeons and staff to best accommodate orthopedic patients.
- Staff working specifically on the ortho unit with a focus on all orthopedic issues. Trained on a variety of orthopedic needs with a particular focus on care for total joint patients.
- Wide range of staff dedicated to the ortho unit including CNA’s, LPN’s, RN’s, midlevel providers, PT, OT, Case Workers, and nursing administration all working together with the patient and their surgeon.
How it works
Joint Camp Class is offered at 9:00 am on the first 3 Thursdays of each month at SIH Herrin Hospital. Class is scheduled by hospital staff, so no need for patient to call for appointment. This is taught by orthopedic midlevel provider and Case Worker to discuss entire course of care from preoperative care, hospital stay, and postoperative care/expectations.
Ortho Case Worker works with each patient on discharge planning to ensure they are setup with all necessary equipment, postoperative therapy, home assistance, and/or inpatient rehab facilities when necessary.
All total joint replacement patients participate in joint camp postoperatively with dedicated ortho PT/OT staff. This includes two therapy sessions each day if necessary prior to being discharged home. Also incorporates the Therapy Gym located on the ortho unit with equipment specific to postoperative total joint replacement needs.
